A Movement Based Approach to Massage Therapy
At KC Rehab, massage therapy is more than relaxation. Every session begins with a quick assessment of how your soft tissues, posture, and movement patterns are working together, because the most effective massage technique depends on understanding what your body actually needs right now. The goal is not just an hour of comfort, but real, lasting release that supports the rest of your recovery.
Massage therapy at KC Rehab is delivered by two Registered Massage Therapists. Cindy-Coco Qiao Zhu Huang, RMT, a graduate of Oxford College registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, is trained in deep tissue massage, soft tissue mobilization, trigger point therapy, cupping, hot stone therapy, head massage, and prenatal massage, and communicates fluently in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. Shuxian (Maggie) Wang, RMT, an Advanced Diploma graduate of Protégé School, offers Swedish relaxation, myofascial release, hot stone therapy, cupping, gua sha, deep tissue massage, and manual lymphatic drainage. Together, they bring a broad mix of techniques to Markham’s diverse community, so your session is matched to what your body actually needs.

Frequent Asked Questions
A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a licensed healthcare professional trained to assess and treat soft tissue, muscle, and joint conditions using a wide range of manual techniques. RMTs in Ontario complete a minimum of 2,200 hours of training and are regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Treatment is therapeutic, not just relaxing.
Sessions at KC Rehab are available in 30, 45, 60, and 90 minute formats. A 30 minute session works well for a focused single area issue, while 60 or 90 minutes is better when multiple areas need attention or you want a full body treatment. Your therapist will recommend the right length based on your needs.
Most extended health benefit plans in Canada cover registered massage therapy when delivered by a licensed RMT. KC Rehab directly bills to most major providers, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Desjardins, and Blue Cross. WSIB claims and motor vehicle accident insurance are also accepted.
No. Registered Massage Therapists are primary care practitioners in Ontario, so you can book directly without a referral from your family doctor. That said, some extended health plans require a referral for reimbursement, so it is worth checking your specific policy before your first visit.
Your first appointment includes a brief health history, a focused assessment of the areas causing you discomfort, and the massage itself. You will be asked to undress only to your comfort level, and you will be properly draped at all times. Your therapist will check in regularly to confirm pressure and comfort throughout the session.
A Registered Massage Therapist provides therapeutic, evidence based treatment for specific musculoskeletal conditions, can issue insurance receipts, and is regulated by a provincial college. A spa or relaxation massage focuses on stress relief and comfort, is typically not delivered by a licensed RMT, and usually cannot be claimed through extended health benefits.
Yes. Prenatal massage is safe and commonly used to manage back pain, hip discomfort, swelling, and tension that develop during pregnancy. Our RMT, Cindy-Coco Qiao Zhu Huang, is trained in prenatal techniques and uses pregnancy-safe positioning with pressure adjusted to each trimester.
For an acute injury or ongoing pain, weekly sessions for the first few weeks are common, then spaced out as you improve. For general maintenance, every three to six weeks works for most people. Your therapist will recommend a schedule based on your specific condition, lifestyle, and recovery goals.
